Lights, Camera, Auction!

A lady who spends a lot of time in front of camera recently shared a dream where she found herself up for auction on Ebay. Although she is frequently photographed, she felt that none of the pictures on the auction page really showed her true self.

Dreaming of being in an auction is similar to dreaming of being in a shopping mall where the dreamer is reflecting on their potential value. However, an auction dream such as this one suggests that the dreamer is constantly asking others to value her, and when she does not receive the feedback she feels that she is worth, then it means that she is of no value.

This dream illuminated a concern that she was not valued enough in waking life, and the public image she was presenting did not allow others to connect with her true self. Instead, she was subject to a lot of sniping and negative feedback.

By presenting her public persona to others in a very specific manner, she is effectively allowing others choose her worth, rather than authentically declaring her own self worth. As we explored the dream, she exclaimed ‘That’s the price of fame, but when it comes to how much I value myself, no-one’s opinion will ever out bid my sense of self worth!’

Suspect Device

Suspect DeviceSo far this year, many clients have been dreaming about bombs and other explosive devices. Their dreams usually involve a bomb that is about to explode, rather than the resulting destruction caused by a detonation. When we dream about a bomb, it often foreshadows a sudden change or significant imbalance in our waking lives.

Usually this reflects either a change in our circumstances caused by external factors like credit crunches and recessions, or indicates a build up of internal anger and frustration about a specific personal issue. These situations are often anticipated with anxiety, as they may end in loss or the destruction of a particular way of life.

Although the sudden change symbolised by the bomb may be experienced as an individual crisis, it also presents the opportunity for transformation and progress. A bomb is a package of potential energy, and the dreamer can choose how to channel and benefit from that energy in waking life.

The solution to working with this dream is to realise that it is our own finger on the detonation button. If we feel that we are about to explode angrily, we need to examine our own current anxieties and frustrations. Rather than having our destructive energy triggered by external events, we should channel that energy into a specific solution to our crisis.

Falling and Slow Motion

Dream
i have had a couple of recurring dreams over the last few years which have intrigued me and would really appreciate a specialists opinion. i have the typical falling dreams but i always hit the floor and i just get up off the ground and walk away. i do not wake up during falling or upon hitting the floor and i wasnt aware you were ‘able’ to hit the floor in a dream? i also regularly dream that i am either running or doing another activity and my body wont allow me to move quickly enough even though i know im capable of moving quicker. its like im moving in slow motion compared to everyone and everything around me.
i would really like to know what you think about these dreams and i hope you can get back to me.

Meaning
When we dream of falling, it is usually because our body is relaxing and we are releasing accumulated tension from our muscles. The theory about not hitting the ground in a dream is simply an urban myth. The fact that you do hit the ground indicates that you are usually quite practical in waking life and enjoy being down to earth.

Although this can be an admirable trait, your second dream reflects some of the frustrations associated with it. When we dream that we want to move faster, or that our feet and legs seem stuck and slow, it often means that something is holding us back from achieving our ambitions and desires. Usually that something is our own self, and your dream expresses the fact that you know you can move more quickly to achieve what you want in life, but you feel held back by the practicalities of doing that.

To get yourself moving more quickly into the future you want, try inviting it into your current life a little bit at a time. Think of who you want to be and where you want to go and see how that feels. There is something in your past that’s holding you back and your dreams are encouraging you to loeave it behind, so you can step into your new future.

Sea Kelp and Water Mint

Seek Help and Wait a MinuteOften when we recall our dreams, the primary recollection is a visual one, full of imagery and colour.  However, my clients usually report dreams where they recollect experiences from their other senses, perhaps recalling voices they heard or the taste of some food they ate in the dream.

Recently a client shared a series of dreams in which her most vivid sensation was a fresh and powerful scent.  As we explored her dream episodes, it became clear that she was experiencing this olfactory event when she was feeling anxious in the dream.  My client has suffered from anxiety and panic attacks since her early teenage years and we were exploring her dreams to find a way to reduce and eliminate these anxieties.   I asked her if she could find out what the scent was.  She spent some days trying to find it, and then the answer came to her while she was having a shower.  The scent from the dream was a shower gel from Boots by the name of Sea Kelp and Water Mint
