Big Brother

This week I have been working with Big Brother and  analysing the dream diaries of the BB9 Housemates. Exploring the housemate’s dreams has been absolutely fascinating and has illuminated a lot about their unconscious behaviour.

The Housemates kept dream diaries for a couple of weeks before entering the house and many of the events that have taken place during BB9 were anticipated by their dreams.

You can read some of the Dream Diary analysis at Dream On 1 and Dream On 2.

Inability to Speak

In this dream we are often desperately trying to say something, but no words come out no matter how much we attempt to shout and scream. We might also find that we have something stuffed in our mouth like a gag, or that our mouth is filled with seemingly endless qualities of chewing gum or sticky food.

Our inability to speak in this dream mirrors an unresolved tension in our waking lives where we really want to say what’s on our mind and to speak and be heard. However, despite all our efforts to do this, we just cannot make our voices heard.

To resolve this dream we need to consider the situations in waking life where we feel ignored or have no way to make our individual opinions heard. We should look at different ways of communicating and the way that we routinely use words and phrases.

If we dream of our mouth packed with chewing gum, we may feel that we have bitten off more than we can chew in waking life. In this case we need to consider our priorities so we can end this sticky situation and move on.

Searching

When we dream of searching for something, we are looking for the answer to an unresolved question in our waking lives. That unanswered question is usually mirrored by what we are searching for in our dream.

If we dream about searching for our car, then we have lost our drive and ambition in waking life and are looking for ways to recover it and continue on our journey. If we are looking for our shoes, we are considering our values and where we stand in a certain situation. If we are looking for our purse our wallet, then we are reflecting on our value to others as we may feel that we have lost some self esteem in waking life.

When we search for other people in our dreams, we are trying to reconnect with aspects of our own identities that we have lost touch with. Searching for a child suggests that we need to regain our sense of wonder and spontaneity. Looking for a lost lover often indicates loss of intimacy and connection.

Our dream searches reflect the deeper questions that we ask ourselves in waking life and we can often find fulfilling answers to those questions by exploring our dreams.

Being Chased

In a chase dream, the dreamer is often trying to escape from a dangerous pursuer. As the chase continues, the dreamer tries to outrun or outwit the pursuer, but often finds that they can no longer run, or are trapped in an improbably small space. The pursuer may be a murderer or a gang of terrorists. For children, it is often a monster or the police.

Having a chase dream usually indicates that the dreamer is feeling anxious about some aspect of their waking life, and they are putting themselves under pressure to conform to certain beliefs, or allowing someone else to put them under pressure.

Dream Message
Usually the person chasing the dreamer in the dream and in waking life is the dreamer’s own authentic self. The dreamer feels pressured in some aspect of their life and these repressed feelings are projected into the threatening pursuer.

The best way to resolve this situation is to turn to face the pursuer in the dream and ask it what it needs. The answer is often surprising and easily accomplished.

Lost Car, Lost Direction

Hello Dr Wallace, I dream the whole time that I go somewhere, usually by car, I can never find the car and never find my way back, I dream this over and over again.

Dream Meaning
When we dream of going somewhere by car, we are usually reflecting on the course that our career is taking in waking life. If you can’t find your car, it often means that you have somehow lost your drive to reach your original intended goal and not being able to find your way back suggests that you no longer remember your original intentions and choices.

Tonight, as you lay your head on your pillow, imagine yourself sitting in your car, in the driver’s seat. Look through the windscreen and visualise, as clearly and vividly as you can, where you want to be in life. Hold on to that image, put the car into gear and begin driving yourself towards it.

Stolen Motorcycle

hi Ian, i have a recuring dream of having my motorcycle stolen over and over, can you help please

Dream Meaning
When we dream of a motorcycle we are dreaming of the path we choose to take through life and our power to make choices about our individual life direction. Having your motorcycle stolen suggests that someone is continually taking away your power to make personal choices about where you want to go in life. This may be someone else that you feel is limiting you or it may be that you lack confidence to say what you really want to do, or perhaps a mixture of both.

Next time you lay your head on the pillow, visualise something that you really want to do, imagine yourself sitting astride your motorcycle, then open up the throttle and begin riding freely and confidently towards it. The more you do this, the more decisive and confident you will become, and your dream motorcycle should always be where you parked it!
