Underwater Horse

Dream
Hello Ian
I am having a recurrent dream about a white horse standing on layers of rock under water. The horse is standing on its back legs, rearing up as if to get attention. I am afraid the horse will drown so I pick up a child’s spade from the beach and start digging a hole in the water to get some air to the horse. The horse then jumps up the hole that I have created and I throw my arms around its neck. What does this mean?

Meaning
When you dream about a white horse, you are starting to become aware of the power of your own wisdom. This has probably been triggered by an emotional situation in your waking life that is bringing your wise judgment to the attention of others. You have accumulated a wealth of experience over a number of years but what you have learned seems to have sunk deep into your unconscious. You would like to use this powerful intuition but cannot think of an obvious way to harness it.

You often use your experience in quite an analytical manner and are concerned that your logical approach will be overwhelmed by the feelings involved in the current situation. You begin to look for ways to bring a breath of fresh air to these emotionally fraught circumstances. The child’s spade represents an innocent but practical approach where you dig down to the fundamental issues.

By opening up to your instincts and saying what you really feel, your unconscious insights really start to leap out at you. The horse’s neck symbolises the strong connection between your rational head and your emotional heart and as you embrace this power, your wisdom is apparent for all to see.

Vegetarian Meat Eater

Hi Ian, I am a strict vegetarian but over the past few weeks I have been have a recurring dream where I am eating a large rare steak. As I bite into it I can taste the blood running out of it and I am ashamed to say that I really enjoy the texture and flavour of the meat as I chew it. As an affirmed veggie, I am finding these dreams both disturbing and intriguing. What does it mean?

Dream Meaning
When we dream of eating food, we are usually reflecting on ways of achieving personal fulfilment in our waking lives. Although you are a vegetarian, the meat that you are eating in your dream indicates a particular opportunity for achievement in your waking life. Like the rare steak in your dream, this is a rare opportunity for you and is probably a situation where there is a lot ‘at stake’.

Dreaming of blood often represents passion and vitality, so this juicy opportunity is something that will revitalise you because you are really passionate about it. You are really savouring the prospect as you chew it over, although you are feeling slightly guilty because you think that you do not really deserve this unique chance.

In its original form, meat is simply animal muscle and we use our muscles to provide power, movement and action. In your dream, this indicates that you need to act soon to ensure a successful outcome for this opportunity. It won’t happen on its own and so you need to move strongly and quickly to make it happen. This is not a situation where you can afford to mince about or cook up an elaborate scheme. Be confident and act now.

Violent Attack Dreams

Hello Ian

Firstly, thank you for reading my email. I have been having nightmares on and off for a couple of years now and they seem to have the same theme:

1. being a witness to someone being violently attacked and being unable to help them.
2. witnessing someone kill themselves. Both very scary and they wake me up feeling very fearful.
3. bumping into the object of my desire and he is wearing very heavy shoes that in some way have weights on them.

Many thanks for reading my mail.
Regards, Tracy.

Dream Meaning
When we experience recurring dreams it is often an indication that there is a situation in our waking lives that needs resolving. As you have had these dreams for a couple of years now, this may give you an idea of the time span that this situation has been present.

Dreaming of ‘witnessing a violent attack’ shows evidence of an inner conflict that you are currently observing; that may also be mirrored in your waking life. Death in a dream often represents transformation, so together they seem to reflect some discord within, involving a personal transformation. Your third dream gives us a bit more of an idea as to the nature of this process.

The object of your desire is male, which suggests a strong attraction to engage with your ability to be assertive. Bumping into him might reflect a chance or opportunity for this to happen. Shoes often represent status or signs of individual expression and how you are perceived publicly. The fact that they are heavy indicates a weight of importance, responsibility or even habitual ways of being that have been impeding your ability to assert your self-expression and hence your freedom to move forward.

There is a lot of energy present in your dreams, this may be what has caused you to wake fearfully, but it is yours to embrace and is the fuel for transformation. Embrace your opportunity to strike out on the right foot into a vibrant future with new dreams to explore!

Visiting Your Old House

Dear Mr Dream Man,
In an occurring dream I often dream that I am flying about in the house that I was born in and remained in till I was 31. I fly from room to room but I don’t fly like a bird does it as if I am like a visiting spirit and no one can see me.

Dream Meaning
When we dream about a house we are usually dreaming about our own identity and individual characteristics. The different rooms in your old house represent different aspects of your character. For example, the kitchen symbolises your ability to nurture yourself and others, the bedroom represents your privacy and self awareness, and the living room shows where you are most comfortable and at home with others.

The neurological process of dreaming plays an important part in consolidating our memories and constructing our identities. This is a vital process in creating an individual sense of self and a coherent identity. By flying from room to room, you are revisiting fundamental parts of your character and considering how they have helped you evolve and mature into the person that you are now.

Although you are revisiting these parts of your character, it seems as if you are invisible and this suggests that you feel that you are losing touch with your younger identity in some way. This can often happen in situations where it seems that you are not being recognised as a unique individual by other people. This dream is reminding you not to forget who you once were and to be proud of your individuality and your personal achievements.

Water and Boats

Hi Dr Wallace, I keep dreaming about water and boats but I do not know why could you please try and explain what this means? Thank you.

Dream Meaning
When we dream about water, we are dreaming about our feelings and emotions. We hear this in our everyday day language when we use expressions like ‘a wave of emotion swept through me’ or ‘I was in floods of tears’. Your water dreams reflect the fact that you are an emotional and instinctive person who is probably very empathetic and understanding. However, you may sometimes find yourself being overwhelmed by your emotions and unsure of what to do.

Boats are vehicles of the water and they symbolise how you can navigate through the currents and tides of your own feelings. If you dream of sailing along on a tranquil sea then are you are probably feeling at ease with your emotions. If you dream that you are trying to sail across a stormy ocean and your boat is leaking, then there is some situation in your waking life that is giving you a sinking feeling and causing you anxiety.

The best way to work with your emotions is to establish some boundaries around them, in the same way that the banks of a river guide its water back to the sea. This will allow you to powerfully channel your feelings as you flow unstoppably towards your goal.

Young Daughter and Lost Car

hello, I keep having a dream that I am always with my youngest daughter when she was about 7 and we get lost or cannot find where I parked the car.  It is not always the same place. I would be very grateful if you could please explain why I keep having this dream.

Dream Meaning
When we dream about a child, we are usually thinking about some situation or project that is close to our hearts in waking life. Your daughter’s age in the dream suggests that this situation has been going on for about seven years and it is something that you identify very closely with. You feel that you have to nurture and encourage this project to ensure a successful outcome.

Dreaming of getting lost indicates that you feel that you are forgetting your fundamental reasons for beginning this project in the first place. A car often represents drive and ambition and a vehicle for success. This indicates that something in your waking life has caused you to park your original ambitions and that you are unsure how to start them moving in the right direction again.

The different locations in the dream suggest that you are involved a number of different work activities but none of these are particularly fulfilling for you. They may be seen as valuable work by others but they are not taking you to where you really want to be in your life. To move on from this dream, try thinking about your initial reasons for starting this project and ways of remaining true and committed to them.

Zombie Bin Men

zombie-bin-menDream
Hi Ian
I keep dreaming that there are some zombies out at the back of my office. I hide behind a photocopier, peeping out of a window in case they see me but they only seem to want to rake through the bins. They are making a hell of a racket so I start shouting at them to keep the noise down.
Yours
Colin

Meaning
Dreaming of zombies often suggests that you have some unique skills that you are neglecting. Although you have tried to ignore these abilities and bury them in the past, they just won’t lie down and keeping coming back to haunt you. Hiding behind the photocopier shows that you are trying to lead a conventional life by being just like everyone else but you know that you are wasting your talents. The zombies raking through the bins are all the creative opportunities that you feel you have wasted and you are trying to draw your own attention to this before it is too late.
