Academic dream researchers often lack the real life experience of working with dreams on a daily basis and this can show in their lack of sensitivity to the dreamer’s actual needs, such as declaring the dreamer’s psyche to be ‘immature’. They also tend to try and fit the dream to their pet theories rather than seeing the bigger dream picture. This leads to all sorts of assumptions such as ‘the bag is clearly the womb’.
Dream
@Squeaky_the_pin David Cameron lost the election because he lied about the number of children he could fit into a paper bag. Honestly!
Dr Parker’s analysis
Kelly Bulkeley (a famous American dream researcher) has studied dreams during elections in the US. In some ways the UK parties are similar to the US system. For example, the Republicans are the US equivalent to the UK conservative party. Bulkeley showed that political allegiance can be linked to personality traits in this case such as valuing tradition, & being less open or less liberal in ways of dealing with life situations. This translates into being more cautious about taking risks.I think this dream is about how a ‘conservative’ approach to life (with a small ‘c’) can lead to not doing the things we want to do.Sometimes we have to throw caution to the wind and take a risk. Children usually symbolise parts of the dreamer’s psyche that are immature, whilst the bag is clearly the womb. I wonder if the dreamer wants to have children and caution is telling them not to. This dream isn’t about politics at all.
My analysis
‘You have a fear of failure because you are trying to develop too many plans and ideas at once. Choose one and start putting it into action’. A leader usually reflects the ability to take decisive action, so the dreamer is being indecisive and losing out on possible opportunities. Children usually represent ideas and plans that are dear to our hearts and that we are trying to grow and nurture. The dreamer has too many plans and ideas and is having difficulty fitting them all in. The ideas all look good on paper but the dreamer is finding it challenging to put them into action.
